Radiofrequency Ablation
We make sure to be thorough with each patient at Desert Pain Specialists so that we can best identify, diagnose and treat your chronic pain. First you will meet Dr. Lai so that he can identify your condition through a comprehensive consultation consisting of a physical exam and necessary tests. To further learn about the extent of your chronic pain, Dr. Lai will also discuss your medical history and symptoms of pain. He will then be able to create an effective and personalized radiofrequency ablation treatment plan to offer you chronic pain relief.
Each treatment session for radiofrequency ablation can last from only twenty minutes to an hour long. The amount of treatment sessions will vary depending on your situation. To prepare for treatment, a local anesthetic will be applied to numb the target area of pain providing comfort. Dr. Lai will use x-ray guidance to accurately insert the injection containing a numbing agent to start treatment. Then the injection distributes a radiofrequency current in order to disrupt the nerve signals causing you chronic pain or even completely destroy the nerve.
Recovery for Radiofrequency Ablation
Overall, the recovery time for radiofrequency ablation is rather short-lived especially when compared to the results. Directly following radiofrequency ablation treatment, you should ask for a ride back home. You can resume your normal activities just 24 hours after treatment. It is possible that you experience soreness around the treatment site, but the discomfort should fade away within ten days of treatment. Dr. Lai will follow up with another appointment in order to monitor your recovery. Your chronic pain relief from radiofrequency ablation is expected to last for three months to a year.
